Take a deep breath.
Imagine a place with no boundaries. Here, you can be as creatively engaged or still as you like. Soothing colors surround you, and elements of everyday life – from the ocean to ordinary objects – are celebrated.
Sound like paradise?
Good. Because to land in this utopian world, one only needs to ‘Journey South’ to Thomasville Center for the Arts Downtown’s latest gallery exhibition opening, made possible by the generous support of J’s Wine & Spirits and Hampton by Hilton.
This spring, the Center will host Journey South featuring two artists: Austin Grace Smith and Cathy St. John. The community is invited to explore their works at the Opening Reception on April 4that 5:30 pm followed by an Artist Talk at 6:15 pm.
“I can look at the work of these two amazing painters all day,” said Darlene Taylor, Exhibition and Public Art Director at the Center. “The organic quality of both Austin Grace Smith and Cathy St. John’s work makes you feel at peace. They’re easy to love.”
From the natural ebb and flow of Smith’s wood-grain paintings to the aesthetic reality of St. John’s objects liberated from their formal boundaries, guests will feel transported by movement and color.
Smith’s work is on exhibit through April 29th,and St. John’s through May 30th. Admission is free. Reservations are encouraged, but not required. ThomasvilleArts.org.
