Past Artists in Residence at the Center

Natalie Barfield

Natalie Barfield

A native of the American South, Natalie is a 90s kid raised amongst longleaf pines, country music, dirt roadin’, and the coastal towns that pepper the Gulf of Mexico. These experiences yielded a strong affection for both the natural environment and the diverse cast of characters that make up the South. Natalie graduated with her Masters of Science in Urban Planning with a specialization in Environmental Planning in 2014 and has always embraced the well-known idiom “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” She finds that fostering multiple artistic interests has enabled her to develop skill sets she might not have otherwise. Barfield appreciates inserting humor and the absurd into her work wherever she can. Her figurative and photographic work seek to explore the beauty and comedy in the mundane.

Ross Everett

Ross is a painter and sculptor whose work explores themes of play, resilience, and connection. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wyoming, where he served as president of the Student Art League, taught sunrise yoga, and worked at the university’s art museum. These experiences deepened his understanding of art’s restorative potential and community impact. Ross then shifted focus to stay-at-home parenting when his daughter was born—a role that shaped his artistic outlook. Creating from home, he developed a practice rooted in emotional growth, wellness, and therapeutic connection. His miniature sculptures and paintings offer viewers a space to reconnect with their inner child, nurturing a sense of gentleness, wonder, and healing. Ross remains committed to creating art that fosters inclusivity, care, and quiet resilience in contemporary life.
